Multi award winning local business, The Lakes Distillery, has received prestigious recognition from VisitEngland this week, just 18 months since it first opened its doors to the public.

After rigorous quality assurance assessments, The Lakes Distillery, Cumbria’s only distillery, surpassed all score thresholds to gain VisitEngland Quality Assured Visitor Attraction accreditation with an impressive overall score of 91% " extremely rare for a brand new attraction.

The completely objective assessment looks at a number of key areas that are important to any tourist from pre-arrival communications and first impressions to cleanliness and catering with scores for staff, literature and of course the attraction itself.

Among the report findings, VisitEngland praised The Lakes Distillery for their ‘excellent tour guide and friendly and welcoming visitor centre staff’ stating the ‘high quality Bistro at the Distillery and shop also impressed’. The report concludes that ‘The Lakes Distillery staff should be proud of their achievements at this spectacular development in a fabulous setting.’

The Lakes Distillery now comprises of daily tours that showcase the journey of how its world-class spirits are created, a retail shop that sells the award-winning finished products, a chic Boardroom that is available for private events and delicious food offering everything from coffee and cake to a la carte dining at the Bistro at the Distillery, now featured in the Michelin Guide.

Maria Duddin, Events, Business Development and PR Manager of The Lakes Distillery said:

“We are very proud that The Lakes Distillery is among only a small number of Lake District tourist attractions to achieve this significant stamp of visitor approval, with very few achieving such hire scores nationally. We welcomed over 180,000 visitors in 2015 and feel this accolade firmly cements us as a tourist destination. We are going from strength to strength "a testament to our excellent customer service and facilities " putting us firmly on the map as a world-class attraction.”
