Having not experimented for a week I kicked off a little WOW after finding inspiration from the old wine recipe book I'm reading:

Apple and Grapefruit 5L

1L Apple Juice
1L Grapefruit Juice
0.5L Red Grape Juice
1tsp Youngs SWYC
1tsp Pectolase
1tsp Glycerine
1tsp Citric acid
Mug of strong tea
680g sugar
Topped up with water

OG 1.090

Hoping for a dry one with a citrus kick.

Stopped this tonight - sitting at .992
Good taste, a tad dry so will back sweeten to taste once stabiliser kicks in. Not acidic (yet) as feared.

Bottled this baby tonight.

I really like it and have high hopes after she's matured for a while. Nice dry fruity citrus taste. Good mouth feel.

Two things learned from this brew:

1 - Use these wine tops again - awesome !
2 - Siphon method (fill tube etc from kitchen tap so no need to suck siphon) so much easier and a tutorial on this forum somewhere.

5 bottles and a sample glass - happy days .

Ok - cracked a bottle of this tonight.
Jury is out - it has a smell , not unpleasant , but a sherry type sweet smell (!).
Taste is not unpleasant but think as suggests above too much Grapefruit - it's cutting through any other flavours .

I'll clearly finish the bottle with SWMBO (who's not going beyond one glass) and check again next month [emoji848]

No ones ever given wine made with grapefruit a thumbs up. Not sure why, just doesn't work well.

Yeah, I'd read that across forum , a lot of the old wine books I've been reading feature Grapefruit so thought it would be worth a punt. As it happens the one I was reading today featured orange juice - and a few forum reads reckon that's equally naff too ! Clearly they had different tastes in the 60's when I think a lot of these books were printed !
