Does filtering help with the taste and quality, I read somewhere that it actually takes the taste and quality away from the wine, has anybody got any views on this?

I have never filtered wine but i cannot see how it can change the taste.
I use a Kwik clear finings and have no reason to filter as its always crystal clear.

Filtering is sometimes required to clarify a white wine when fining has failed to complete the job, especially if cloudy juices have been used. The removal of residual suspended solids certainly does affect the wine's flavour, as does leaving the wine to clear slowly of its own accord and sit on the deposits. The trick is to make so much wine that there is no rush to drink it.

thank you both for your replies, I think I may filter half off one batch and leave the other and see if it makes any difference, the ones I have fine filtered look gin clear but does not seem to have the body I was expecting. The kit I used was a KenRidge Chardonnay.
