So this is what went for a lager-ish type of thing:
10l batch no chill.
900glager malt
400g Pale wheat Malt
300g Flaked maize
70g Flaked rice
400g Crystal 60l
9g German hops..can't spell it @60 mins
13g SAAZ @ 5mins
A starter with 2-23 yeast
Step mash
50c- 20 mins
62c- 45 mins
70c- 45 mins
Mash out 75c- 10 mins
Looking a good lager colour so far..
Didn't want to put too much crystal in..
Back to it...
Great stuff, as ever, Bri!

Wild guesses on German bittering hop:

Hallertauer Mittelfruh ~ 5%
Tettnang ~ 4.5%
Hallertauer Hersbrucker ~ 3.5%

Based on what you might not fancy spelling.

Morning all,
Early bird n all that!
Up at 5:30...setup got Doppelbock brewday!!!
Missable day! But I'm indoors!
the same I'm I'm already thinking of the next brewday....as you do!
This time thinking again of a Pale Ale 3 x 5l DJ's experiment!
This time cascade, chinook & CITRA..
A citrus theme on this one...was going to try williamette but the floral aroma doesn't flicked my switch!! Just yet!
Seems like my made shift ferm chamber keeps a constant temp! So ready for it
Wanted to do the Doppelbock for so long, so I'm going to enjoy my morning.
Just chill setting up n getting every stage set up...checked twice..lol

Well it went ok-ish!!
If u can understand me...lol
Know how some high % beers n lagers have more grain bill...
So I wasn't thinking at all..with the calculations for mash n sparge water!!
Supposed to be a 10l batch!!
U with me so far? Lol
Ended up with bout 15l...
The gf calculations put the grain weight into a larger batch size...
You could say didn't you cotton on?? It's Brian u know!!
Not all lost...still got bout 7% abv
And coz I've no chilled less worry to do.
Lush colour and the smell was great..
Mind I prob not use Irish moss unless I run out..bloody honking!! Like my feet at a bad day.
Been waiting to make this for ages and I enjoyed myself...
Perle n tattnag what Eva it's called was a new to me. Only small additions..
Might when I check much later might dry hop.
I'm smashing through the recipe book lol.
I love shiny shiny!!

Yeast starter made...chicken casserole made...cleanup..hair cut! N time to putt my feet up..
Thx pal hope your ok

Waitning for the FV to finish sterilising for the Doppelbock.
I've just lost 20 odd minutes of my life...looking at 'The Brewster'
All the way thinking one handed could I do this do that and for all the abled bodied person (two handed) can get away with it...
The first thing I saw the two handled grain backet stand thingy for sparging be pita for me...
Unless I get a hoist like on some YouTube vids..
It's got more connects and pipes than owt else!!
My whole water taps don't have the easy fittings...if I need to use the GF chiller I got one of them shower hose rubber connectors!! Bloody crap...ok in a few brews them there's more water coming out in the connector!!
Anyways I could get one tap in the house sorted..
At this time..my cuppa went cold and I realised the GF for my condition is spot on...

Yeast starter (Bohemian lager) is Nicely done..
Now all I have to do is syphon the wort into the FV...I'm not going through the perlava I had befor with the barrels....lol
Once finished I hoping to get a pic or two in the make shift ferm chamber and FV and the temps reading etc.
