Had a busy one last weekend, so couldn't make enough time. Everyone has gone out and now I've gone over to the Dark Side.

Doing my first Simple AG as per Clibit's recipe.

1Kg of Maris Otter
Challenger Hops

30 minutes into the boil now and the house smells like the Ovaltinees have come to stay!

Can't believe how simple this has been (hope I haven't spoken too soon).

I'll post a further update once things progress.

It's simple innit? I like Challenger, your beer should turn out good. What yeast you using?

Used Muntons Premium Gold yeast. Its a warm day so let it come right own to around 18 degrees before pitching. Waiting for some activity now.

just to add that at 30 mins, the kitchen smelled like a wartime malt drink. 5 minutes later, it was a medieval brewhouse!

I'm liking this AG malarkey!

All down hill now. You'll be eyeing up boilers and corny kegs before you know it

I Think we need to say a prayer at this point:

clibit's prayer::pray:

our clibit,

who art in all grain,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy mash tun come,

thy sparge be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily brew,

and forgive us our kit brewers as we forgive them,

and lead us not into cider but deliver us from evil,

for thine is the boil kettle,

forever and ever....

cheers!

LOVE IT!!

"and lead us not into cider but deliver us from evil,"

This is one of those post's I wish I could like twice!

Aren't the four clibit apostles, Hops, Grains, Yeast and Water?

I thought they were the four virtues.

Throw away your tin opener - it is an encouragement to sin.

Loved Clibit's prayer --- Lead us not into cider, but deliver us from evil.... LOL - still laughing.

I couldn't wait any longer and sampled the clibit AG recipe that I'd had on the go for the last 4 weeks. I'd tweaked it a bit and dry hopped with abut 20g of citra. Wow! What a difference! Even without any fining additions I have a clear crisp light (amber) pale ale. Nice citrussy hop taste with a slight bitterness.

What a difference from kit beers!

I made more than a few mistakes with this, but the 8 bottles I got are definitely ones to remember.

So who's going to come up with the clibit ten commandments?! I'll have a stab at one - 'thou shalt not worship tin cans'....
