Just to let everyone know (and I just know you were all wondering what had happened to me and my first brew... honest!), that the first brew of wherry is now nearly all gone
She was in the barrel in the house for 8 days or so, then out to the garage to clear down for as long as I could leave it (or my son's first birthday whichever came first) and I was good, I managed to leave it outside until the 22nd of Feb. OK this meant it had only been outside for 9 days and therefore only in the barrel for the ridiculously short 17 days and yup I know I'm bad/ too eager but I couldn't help myself.
Saying all that, I was incredibly pleased with the limited results I achieved, beer was beautiful, had dropped pretty clear with a chill haze that cleared up once I brought the barrel in for the do we threw for my son. OK it wasn't crystal clear but it hadn't been in the barrel long enough so I wasn't expecting something that was crystal clear. It had a pleasing malty taste, kept a fairly decent head and wasn't too loopy ABV wise. And as you can tell from the first line, it was actually too nice! With the help of a mate and a Carling Cup Final success, we seem to have already ploughed through most of the 40 pints. Order has been placed with the Home Brew shop for http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... r_Kit.html and also http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... r_Kit.html so in theory one of them has a chance of being in the barrel for more than 2 weeks.
Now just to wait for my order to arrive so I can start the next batch... brewing bug has well and truly bit! :
