Thanks for the heads up, might have to get down there on the way back from work!

Been sipping one of these whilst watching the rugby, very nice beer indeed!

In France they sell spare flip-tops that come with a metal band that can be wrapped around the neck of a bottles, including champagne bottles.

The metal bands are available here ...

(I feel obliged to point out that in France I got 50 plastic versions of this item, including the metal bands, for €11.50!!)

They remove the struggle to put a cork in and anyone who uses Grolsch bottles will know that a properly set flip-top will easily hold in plenty of pressure. :thumb: :thumb:

This was the 'beer of the month' in my local Lidl when I visited yesterday so I bought a few bottles. I'll give it a try this evening.

'Looks' is as far as it went. Too strong, too sweet and too gassy. I was hoping the it might be reminiscent of an old ale, but it had nothing of the complexity and subtlety of a good example of that breed (ah, the K&B Old Ale of my youth!). But at least it was less than 2€ a bottle and so I can put it down to experience!

Just giving you the heads up that lidls French week starts Thursday and they will be selling their biere de garde which I like. They will also be selling a 12 case of what looks like strong Belgian beers.

I wonder why it is that Lidl in the UK has a French week but Lidl in France doesn't have a British week? I fear that it is that the French are rather conservative in their beer drinking habits and those don't include a great deal of 'bière brune'. If I want to buy any British beer in France, generally I have to keep a watchful eye on the shelves of Noz - a chain of shops that specialises in selling stock which is fire damaged or from liquidation sales and suchlike. Still they've had a reasonable amount of Adnams' beers of recent weeks. Hang on, has the Sole Bay Brewery gone up in flames or bust?

Suppose the French week at Lidl has long passed?? It was back in September, after all.
