As discussed recently, the competition is changing a little with only 4 broad categories (American Pale Ales, Dark Beers, Freestyle and British Pales, Bitters & Milds) with an additional "seasonal" competition every three months. You can see the discussion here: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=72551.

September is the first month of the new schedule so the category is American Pale Ales so that includes Pales, IPAs, American Wheat Beers, DIPAs, BIPAs etc.

The judge is @wfr42 assuming you're happy with this new category?

If you'd like to enter please send a PM to the judge who will provide you with a delivery address. Entries must reach the judge by Saturday 30th September and feedback will be provided by PM within a few weeks. The winner will be announced on this thread.

For details of what details needs to be provided with your entry and competition rules please look at this thread: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=64349

I currently have fermenting away an imperial wheat X IPA, can that be sent off?

Is there a thread somewhere that sets out what size bottle the entry should be; glass or plastic; and how to wrap and post the entry?
If so, can someone point me in that direction? If not, should there be a general info/FAQ thread with this info to help people who haven't sent entries before?

There certainly was, it's not a sticky anymore but I'll see if I can dig it out.

It's basically 1 bottle, any size, glass or plastic is fine. There is a thread on posting bottles generally somewhere as well, I'll try and find that one as well.

Happy to judge!

Had my first address request (which has prompted me to get my August entries out!)

I bottled my wheat X IPA and I don't have that many bottles. I have a couple of IPAs I think I'll send off, but I'm not sure they're really "competition winning" beers. Are black IPAs accepted?

Yeah, according to the revised style guide they are.

I'm not sure i have enough of my amber ale left to enter a bottle so I don't think we need to work out whether that'd be acceptable.

Will happily sample and review whatever I'm sent.

I may have missed a final discussion but thought the consensus was a focus on feedback rather than best of a certain style as we all like different things from our beer.

Was planning to judge in a similar format to the UK smash off and using Steve's feedback forms. Let me know if I should be doing something different.

I'm not sure where I've mentioned this, but I updated the comp rules and basically it's up to the judge to decide whether a style is suitable for the month's competition. For example this month the style is "American" (i.e. hoppy or whatever). If there are some styles people are questioning, like an American red or American wheat, I can see that fitting in to this competition, but as it's not strictly an IPA or similar style I understand if it's not included to get a more simple judging category.

The line has to be drawn somewhere, but I think we all have enough common sense to not enter in a stout or Munich helles to this month, for example.

First bottle arrived collected today from @dan125
@dads_ale arrived 11/9

Lots of other interest and address requests but just two bottles delivered so far.

When we say the subject is "American", and everyone automatically thinks "hoppy", but what about less hoppy styles like cream Ale or Cali Common which are "as American as Apple pie"? Would they qualify?

Will leave the comp moderators to make the final decision but I'd happily sample (version 3 of) your steam beer again. :-)

I still have the packaging from your raspberry Wheat so I might send you a bottle anyway.

10 (or 11 including mick) requests for comp address and 3 entries received so far.

If you have sent a package and I haven't acknowledged it then I haven't got it....
