I've decided to use WLP007 in the brew that i'll be doing for my 'forum brew'. I've made up a starter from the yeast that I grew on and split a week ago. This is the first time I've done this so fingers crossed  I plan to let it grow for 2 days then step it up from 2L to 3L then do the same again and step it up to 4L for the brewday. On the brewday I'll pour off the wort that it has fermented and add some cooled wort from the boil to try to get it going ready to pitch into 2x 25L fermenters.

Some pic's from what I've done today

Like it Wez, I really should give it a go sometime.

I recovered some yeast out of a bottle of Chimay Blue but then realised that I didn't really want a large batch of Beligian beer. It is still sitting in the fridge but cannot see me using it.

It looks like my yeast survived my first attemps at growing & splitting, this one is bubbling ever 12 seconds  I keep swirling to get some air in there :) There is a nice layer already building up at the bottom

Quite hopeful at the moment ;)

This starter is up to 3L as of yesterday and it's gone from this :

I'm thinking of adding in another 1L today and then brewing on Wednesday :thumb:

There is now a nice layer (around 2cm) of yeast at the bottom of the DJ so i'm going to go for it and use this in todays brew split between two 25L FV's.

The plan is to pour off the wort that it has been growing in and add 2L of cooled wort taken 10 mins into the boil, hoping that this will give it a chance to be as active as possible when I pitch it.

(Does the above method sound right?)

I collected 1L from 10 mins into the boil and cooled it to 25 degrees, then I poured off the spent wort from the yeast and added the cooled wort and gave it a good shake. 1 hour later the airlock is bubbling every 3 seconds, it sounds like the yeast likes the wort :D
