Hi, first brew for quite a few years...

I will be using a large bucket and lid from wilko..
Had to buy a new one because a builder helped them self to my brewing bucket and filling it with tile adhesive anyway..

Do I need to put a plastic airlock bubbler on the bucket lid?

I seem to recall I did do that once but I'm sure on other brews I just didn't bother
Apologies if this has been asked 1000 times
Cheers

If the lid doesn't have a hole for an airlock you can seal the lid but leave a small section open (not enough to allow nastiest in) to allow the CO2 to escape.

If it does you can use an airlock or a blow off tube, i prefer a blow off tube as i (and many other members) have had vigorous fermentation that have overflowed -

i have two, one with an airlock and one with out, tbh i prefer to use the one without, you can still see progress as the krausen grows,

Air locks are more of a visual than necessity, i have a FV with an ill fitting lid, I leave it 2 weeks then check the gravity, I'm not a day by day lid lifter. [emoji23]
