hi guys

Just starting things up here in belfast, n.ireland. I was going to go with the Coopers startup kit and also buy an extra fermentor bucket and an extra beer kit. is that everything i'd need to be able to do 2 types of beers? I'm able to get magners bottles from a friend in a bar so that'll take care of bottling the 2nd beer.

other question was this: i went to the only store I can find in the city- they don't have coopers but have youngs at a fraction of the price. It's nearly £50 cheaper and seems to include everything the coopers has minus the bottles. with my free bulmers bottles, should i just buy the youngs startup kit instead of the coopers along with some lids and a capper?

thoughts anyone?

thanks

Matthew

Well, here is the list of equipment I see as ESSENTIAL:

- 2 fermenters (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/container ... m-tap.html)
- Air Lock (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/otherequi ... -bung.html)
- chemical steraliser (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/chemicals ... n-1kg.html)
- 1 kit (I would go for this http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/beerkits/ ... 3-0kg.html)
- Bottles (go to your local pub and ask for their emptys)
- Caps (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/bottling/ ... -caps.html)
- Capper (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/bottling/ ... apper.html)
- Bottle Filler (e.g. http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/bottling/ ... iller.html)
- Paddle (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/otherequi ... -16-y.html)
- Hydrometer (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/otherequi ... -beer.html)

Maybe this is a more expensive route, but it is EVERYTHING you will need to make awesome beer!

I would also recommend getting a copy of Beer Smith on free trial (http://www.beersmith.com/) and buy it if you like it. I love it personally so I think it is worth the pennys.

Also, buy a good book on brewing. There is debate on what is the best book, but if you want something free you cant go far wrong with this ebook (https://sites.google.com/site/brewnux/f ... ects=0&d=1).

thanks for the reply! also, nice website!!

so would you recommend your list rather than a starter pack along with a second fermenter bin and 2nd beer kit? is that because basically you recommend the st peters over the coopers?

thanks

I started off buying a Coopers microbrewery kit, itcame with steriliser and an upgrade to Canadian Blonde Ale, the kit worked exactly as expected and I sit here now drinking 1 of my remaining first brews.

I have since brewed an Australian pale ale and a Coopers Lager...both not ready yet, they are in bottle conditioning.

I did buy a St Peters kit already too and look forward to brewing it.

If I could give you my opinion of the Coopers Mocrobrew kit Id have to say it is excellent!

And even though I have brewed 3 Coopers brews I am now going to venture out into other brands hence my St Peters kit.

Welcome to the brewing Forum you will be addicted!!!
