If u hadn't have added cream of tartar then u would have a crystal clear amber brew
The cream of tartar makes ur brew opaque and makes ur brew crisp and adds body

Originally added to gingerbeer as a yeast nutrient
But is what gives it it's classical look

Imagine the difference bettween the taste and look of cloudy lemonade and normal
That Is the difference between adding it and not!

im more than happy with the way it looks ...
i just got to get the taste right now just a case of getting the sweetner right...

im putting it into fv no2 2day so do i sweeten it 2day or sweeten on the day i bottle...

regards mick... :hat: .

I don't really think it matters too much when u add it,
How much sweetner were u thinking of adding then?
Adding a bit too less is greatly better than adding a touch to much!

ok so i put the ginger beer in to fv no2 today ...

everything sanitised at the start.. .

i used my muslin cloth over top my sieve to trap all the floaters...
and fitted a plastic bottle top on the end of my syphon tube via 2 slits i cut in to the end of the pipe.. ;) .

i was so surprised just how much stuff was in the bottom of the fv...
and just how clogged the pipe got ...so i tipped the last 3/4 litrs in...

i also back sweetend it with 2 tubs of asda granulated sweetner.. .

yes i no thats alot but it takes what it takes i suppose ...

heres the pics ...

I've never had to back sweeten any of mine yet but I've never use tartaric.

Keep us posted.

ok up date ... .

double oops ...

first things first..

i tasted it just now and its to sweet ...

it was ok last week but it has got sweeter...
is there anything i can add to get rid of some of the sweetness ..

the second oops

i just done a bloody stupid thing with my brew...
i was going to bottle it today so i sanitised everything ...

then got ready to syphone it into the bottling bucket and thought where shall i put the spoon down so i thought put it in the fv just till i bring the bottling bucket up stairs ...

so i poped it in and with out thinking i started stiring it ...
then i seen a cloud of sedement come to the top ...

so ill have to wait till 2moro now for it to settle back down ...
so that means ill have to sanitise every thing again 2moro ...
im soooooooooo pist off...

Lol oh well only another day and another 15 mins.

Like I say I've never back sweetened mine as they all hit the spot without it, now you know for next time. I don't have any idea how to get sugar taste away in brews try a pinch of salt? I know it works for bitterness.

That's my last brew got 3 more on. The above brew lacked slight bitterness but the colour and taste is amazing. Thinks it's time for a large scale on it.

well i just rang a guy that used to brew alot and he said boil 2ltrs of water and cool it ...

then add it to the brew so thats what i just did ...
and i have to say it nice ... :D .

i just have to let it all settle down now so ill leave it till the weekend ...
i no it will up set my ABV ..but its 6.6 so i dont mind it coming down ... ;)
in fact i welcome it ...

i have to say yours looks lush.... :thumb:

I wasn't expecting much from that brew as all my others are yellow. But so far it's the one I could sit and drink all day long. Hoping my next batch hits the spot.

I don't pay attention to abv anymore, I take initial reading and guess from there. As long as I can drink it I'm happy, unless I'm documenting a recipe then I record like a mad man.

i only pay attention to abv for the forum just to let others no if i have hit the target or not...
as you no if you follow the recipes right you hit the target so thats why i look at the abv...

but i dont like to much abv as its for the taste these days ...
its nice to have a pint you can have a few of without getting to drunk lol...

i have decided to leave this ginger beer till the weekend to settle as i have added 3 ltrs of cooled boiled water and gave it a good stir it now tastes nice so just need it to settle ...
but it means i have got alot more to bottle than before lol...
as you can see in this pic ...

ok bottled it today so after sanistising everything again...
i had to chuck out my caps ...
as they went rusty because i left them in the solution ....

so my falt yet again ...

now before i post the pics ill say here and now...

I NO THE LABLES ARE WRONG...

but i done them ages ago when i thought they were right...

you will see in the pics ...
i wasnt going to re print them as there only for me ... .

so here goes ...
i put the sugar in half a pint of boiling water and mixed it till it was all dissolved...
added it to the bottling bucket then syphoned the GINGER BEER on to it .. :thumb: .

when this was complete i gave it a good stir...
being careful not to get any oxygen into it...

then i botted it ...

i used as always some pet bottles...
then a mix of bottles and some half pint becks blue bottles...
so if i only want a small drink i got one .. :)
the rest was a mix up of the first ones i got my hands on from the shed..

after botting i covered them with a towel as some of the bottles are green ... ;)

here are the pics ...

you are getting a very good stash going! The colour is looking good too.

I'm not sure you need to worry about covering the green bottles unless you have added hops? Don't quote me on that though.

Daaaamn that's a lot of bottles, I drink all of mine and can never get more than 150 pints before I go wild on them.

Found my 6.2% stout lying around, last bottle, drank it and I'm not going to lie I felt tipsy. Can't believe I used to drink that all the time.

017-7_zps6257ccb8.jpg

well not much of a head...
but it looks the part a nice golden colour...
theres a bitter tea type after taste to it .. :hmm: .

i think it will take one or two pints but all in all i do like it and it goes down easy .. :thumb: .
trouble being i love my stout and my newkie and its not at all like them ..
