7/16 is aprox 11mm 1/4 is aprox 6mm if that helps ? Depends on the thread form

The thread on disconnects is 1/4" mfl, which corresponds to 7/16 unf. Like Steve J says, it's about the thread form. The usual fitting used is a JG thread to push-fit tube connector. Scroll down this page:
