Hi Mick. I use the shop in Keynsham, too. They are nice and helpful and it's good to support a local business.

Did you brew the stout to 23 litres? I did mine to 21 with 1kg of extra dark DME and a tin of treacle, which gave me 1.060, so, 1.050 seems about right.

thanks SloeBrewer ... :thumb: .

yes i did brew the stout to 23 litres...
as they said in the shop in Keynsham,...
if i follow the instructions on the tin...
i cant go wrong...

i must say that i already had my stout from wilkinson ...
before i found the shop....
so what ever goes on with this brew...
its no reflection on them...

All looking good.

It would appear that the bucket isn't sealed perfectly, most aren't, and the pressure is escaping elsewhere as by the looks of it it should be bubbling away.

Over the next 24 hours the pressure release won't be enough and the bubbler will start doing its thing :)

Personally I would take it out and leave it out till it calms down. If it's pushing out already then it's going to be a messy one. Clean sterile cloth over the hole will be fine for protecting the ferment.

Clean the airlock, sterilise it and rinse it again. When the ferment calms down pop it back in :)

o dear i was only gong out for 1 hr ...
and when i cam,e home it was like this....

do i just leave it ....
or is there some thing i can do ...

i keep cleaning it off the outside but its not stopping
will it push all the yeast out ??

Coopers stout is wild for this, I don't know if there's something definitive you should do but I just kept wiping it with a clean cloth and it calmed down after a few days, by the way, it's a brilliant pint once it's ready

ill just keep cleaning it off till it stops ..theres no point clipping the top back on as it just pushes off again...
as long as its just foamand dont push all the yeast out
i dont mind ...

haha thats mad ...
i love the look of that pint ... :thumb: .

i dont mind it going off like that ...
as long as it dont do it any harm ...

i hate to think what my carpit would look like ...
if i never had it in that bucket though  ...

As I said, take the bubbler out and let the pressure escape from the hole rather than outside the bucket.

Put some room temp water in the bottom of the builders bucket and put the end of the hose in it, this way it will work as an air lock and stop any nasties getting up your pipe, nothing worse than nasties up your pipe :-D

o dear ...

a after thought ...

i added my 1kg of muntons beerkit enhancer mixed that in ...
instead of sugar....as it said on the packet..
then added my 500g of spraymalt /extra dark ...

BUT ...
was i ment to add more sugar ...

becuse just now...
i had some brew foam on my finger

and it d tasted very very bitter...

No it's fine beer enhancer and spray malt should be used as a replacement for sugar, don't judge it by it's taste just now, it'll be brilliant 2 weeks after bottling

Sounds like a good recipe, and by the way it's going it's gonna be a belter :D

What you have done with the silicone is absolutely ideal.
