hi
iv been brewing again ... :thumb: .

i done another coopers australian stout ... :D .

i love this stuff ...

so iv done it as i did the first one ...

the kit plus 1kg of beerkit enhancer ...
500gof extra dark spray malt...

so it should be a good one again .... .
o this time i fitted a over flow pipe come air lock...
in place of normal the air lock..
so im ready this time ...
as you no these go off like a rocket... :D .

first i put 4 pints of boiling water in the fv ...
then in went the beerkit enhancer ...
then the extra dark spray malt ...
gave it a damn good stir...
then in with the coopers stout kit ...

gave it all a good whisk for 5 mins and then topped it up to 40 pints with cold water ...
then gave it another damn good stir then put in a air lock ...
i then remembered how it shot off last time .. .

and swopped it for a pipe come air lock...

and taped the lid down this time ...

its sat at 21c...
and my first reading was 1.040...
heres some pics ...

Lookin good mick, and nice pics :thumb: I thought 1040 a shade low with the stuff you added, but it will be a great pint.

An idea?
I mix all my fermentables in a biggish pan (5 litre)with 1/2 kettle of boiling water.
Prior to all this and usually before I sanitise everything I start warming my kit in a pan of boiling water.
Once my sugars are nicely dissolved (after vigorous whisking) I open my kit and now its nicely warmed through I chuck it in with the fermentable syrup (it mixes in easily)
This makes mixing so much easier and lump free.
Boil another kettle!!
Chuck the wort/syrup mix into the FV.
Add cold water until you hit the level you require or until the temp drops below 22c ( if so add the kettle of boiling water)
Add enough cold/boiling water until you reach required level and temp (whisking in between additions)
Your mix now should be perfectly........ erm mixed!!

Personally I've found this method the simplest and most successful. :thumb:

Mick,

If you saw mine, it's consuming my entire kitchen - I'm thinking it might start me having nightmares about a beer monster.

That a lot of action going on there Mick! I never had anything like that with my stout although I do use the coopers FV with the Krausen collar so have a bit more room, I also short brewed it to 22ltrs.

tastes great though and like you I'll be sticking another on next, probabley with 1kg of Dark spray malt and 300g of dextrose. Did it with 454g of treacle last time and may add 150-200g this time.

£15 for the Coopers??!! that's good!

They are good, but yes they're bloody expensive as well, the way I looked at it was that because you get the bottles etc, BE2 and any coopers beer kit it was worth it. I just accepted that my coopers IPA (cracking pint by the way despite a few mishaps on my part) was going to cost me £1.70ish a pint.

Since then I've brought 96 more Coopers PET bottles at a cost of £40, but on the other hand I haven't visited the Off licence since January. I keep telling the missus that by the summer when I'll be fully stocked we'll make the money back.......

She's still miffed bless her, that I said I wanted to do this to save us some money, yet so far it err well hasn't......

I also now keep moaning about the beer when I do visit the pub as a lot of the time it ain't that good and I can have 7-8 of mine for one pint down the pub.. ! shocking when you think of it like that :wha:

ok so iv syphoned my coopers stout in to the 2nd fv...
there was a hell of alot of sediment this time ...
sorry i only took 2 pics .. .

but i done what i always do ...
i syphoned it into the 2nd fv ...
cleaned and sanitised the first one...
theN syphoned it back into there ...

i do this becuse its my bottling bucket i use ...

i did get more fvs but i keep filling them up aswell  ..

its now sat at 21c and a reading of 1.012...

any way such as they are...
