Hi All,

Just thrown together a brew for this weekend, planning a dubbel. I had some malt to use up so I bought some Pilsner malt as the base and had a go at making my own Candi sugar, which turned out much better than expected!

Pilsner: 3.3lkg
Special B: 300g
Wheat: 300g
Candi Sugar: 700g
Table sugar: 400g

Hops:
35g Saaz 60 minute
35g Hallertauer 20 minute

Yeast:
WLP 500

Any feedback would be welcome!

The Special B isn’t “authentic”, and i’m Not sure what the regular sugar will achieve that the Candi sugar doesn’t do but better. If it were me I’d up the Candi sugar and scrap the regular sugar. I’d drop the special B too, but it’s very common in “Belgian style” beers so there’s nothing really wrong with it. Otherwise, looks good!

Have you brewed this, how'd it go?

Hey chaps! My apologies for a late reply. Between work and a newborn I'm struggling for time!

Yep, brewed it at the weekend but omitted the sugar. It smelt great and is bubbling away happily at 18c as I type this.

Will let you all know how it turns out in a few weeks :thumb:
