Set off to brew a IPA this morning. Heated strike water to 71 degrees then stirred in the grains and checked temp and it was down to 55. Decided to boil a kettle to get the temp up, but after adding the full kettle I realised it is my thermometer that is knackered
So I added some cold and left it to Mash. I now have no way of checking what temperature it is at.
Do I just carry on regardless and see if I hit my OG, and if not I can add some DME into the boil?

Do you have a meat, photography or candy thermometer in the kitchen, not so accurate but will do for an approximation. Same thing happened to me 2 brews ago, so used my meat and photography thermometers to get me out of the problem and I still got a good beer out of it.
Hope this helps, just carry on, I'm sure you will be all right in the end
Cheers

No backup thermometer unfortunately so I'll just plough on. I'm sure it will still end up as beer
