Elland Brewery Tour

Yesterday I did a tour of Elland Brewery.
In total there was 30 of us.
The tour lasted around 15 minutes, which was one of the quickest tours I have done to date.
This left us with plenty of time to sample the ales. Think we had 3 1/2 hours in total.

This is what we had to sample, and so far the best choice of ales on a tour I have done:

Merrie City 4.1%
Nettlethrasher 4.4%
Summit For the Weekend 4.6%
Beat A 5.0%
1872 Porter 6.5%
Bargee 3.8%
Work In Progress 4.0%
Elland Best Bitter 4.0%
Eden 4.2%

These were either straight from the cask or from a polypin, and it was help yourself.

I asked the head brewer some all important questions:

What temp do you mash at? 70.5c that's correct 70.5c, I had to double check that with him
How long do you mash for? 90 mintues
How long do you boil for? 90 mintues
Which yeast strain do you use? Thwaites

He was a nice guy, and told us about meeting Holly Willaboobie, been on TV, Radio and his trips to USA after the Elland Porter won champion beer award.

10 mins is not long for a tour, but there is not a lot to see in a small brewery. It is good when the head brewer is happy to talk shop. I spent around 1/2 hour in the York brewery tap enjoying a drink and chat with their head brewer.

Nice write up Simon. It was a cracking **** up. I mean tour. I'd be be up for another of Dave's outings!

It sure was, I remember giving him ideas for other tours, but I cant remember his response. I think it might have been due to me been slightly drunk!

Blame it on the abundance of samples. Saltaire Brewery would be good.

I love the York brewery Beers, and have been to the brewery a couple of times, the staff definitely love their beers, (they had hangovers on both occasions lol :lol: )

Centurion Ghost is my favourite, I wish they would do that as a kit brew, I have the Yorkshire terrier to make after my current brew :drink:
