Hi all,

I'm approaching my first all grain brew (probably next week) and am currently trying to take in as much info as i can to increase my knowledge of the art of AG brewing to get me off to a decent start.

I have been having a play with Beer Engine and making up a few mock recipes just to suss out the software and see what it does.

On the recipe screen there are a few calculators that change as you add ingredients. Efficiency, FG, ABV, colour, total liquor and mash liquor.

The two that i'm not sure about are total liquor & mash liquor.

I added 5kg of grain to the recipe for a 23l brew and the calculator shows as follows:

Total Liquor 33,3l - Is this the total water i will need to use?
Mash Liquor 12.5l - What does this mean?

Sorry if im being a bit thick here lol.

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

Mash liquor is the amount of what folks call strike water what you add to your grains covering them and then letting it mash in that for 90 mins or whatever.
the total liquor is just that...the full amount of water wyou need to brew that beer
