I've currently got a Munton's Midas Touch Ale in the FV. Currently reading "Yeast". I'm inspired to try and harvest and culture some of the yeast but would like to know what the yeast is, so I can look up it's characteristics. I would like to use it for an IPA kit, so I want something that will not hide the hop flavours. Any ideas ?

i would only bother doing that for a good yeast , muntons will just have a standard ale yeast of so so quality it would cost you more in dme to get a starter going than it would to just buy a good yeast , better still buy a liquid yeast and make a large starter then split it or capture it after brewing , there way better than dried yeasts

Sounds like a plan, I quite like the microbiology side of things. So many variables!
