So having only started the home brewing thing last winter I'm experiencing the fly as summer comes in !!

Bottled up some cider tonight , 25 l in the kitchen , door open .

Must have hand clapped 3 flies during the process !!

Keep the door shut next time is the simple answer ??

Is it true what I read about fruit flies ruining the goods ?

Think you can bare to leave some red wine in a glass as suggested in 3. Merry Fly Trap, a difficult one ..lol

Some time ago someone on here posted an idea for a vinegar fly trap. All it is is a jam jar or glass with about 5 - 10mm of vinegar in the bottom, which attracts the flies. The magic ingredient is a few drops of detergent which lowers the surface tension and stops them getting out of the vinegar and consequently they end up drowning. Every now and again you just empty it of dead flies and old vinager and start again. Works a treat :thumb:
