I know that mild is made with very few aroma or flavour hops. Does anyone know what a beer made with just extract - no steeping grains, no hops - would taste like.

It can taste OK actually. The starter I'm making a the moment built up from Duvel bottle dregs was rather refreshing and pleasant when I tasted it. I'm just using extra pale malt extract.

I think this is because it has fermented most of the sugars so isn't very sweet and the Belgian yeast is quite a stong and interesting flavour.

At about 2% I could really see it making a pleasant summer drink when you didn't want to get ******.

Actually there are a few beers styles that require very low bitterness. Berliner Weisse has an IBU of between 3&8, Witbier 4-5 ect. I woul assume a beer without bitterness would taste similar.

Extract is made from steeping grains afaik?
