I do not get the link between the first and second half of your post, are you suggesting people do not know what a tower block is if they do not live in one, pass by one or know someone living in one or are you asking if someone here lives in a tower block and makes home brew?

.

I was also mystified by davereal's post. I was even wondering if he was suggesting the fire was started by a homebrewer

Yes , you'r right there. i was half implying that a lot of people , don't have a clue about estate / tower block living. ( for about the last 30 years)And , all of a sudden , the shat 's hit the fan , and what ?And does any one brew on the 15th floor?

NO NO, just wondering if any one lives and brew's in a tower block as a light hearted respite from the perceived demoghapics of a tower block.

Sorry, that was a pretty **** post to be honest.Just seems that celleb's and all are jumping on a band wagon and to be fair addressing the safety issue but will move on . A lot of estates have been left to run down over many years, with no investment to the communal areas and money being spent on so called vanity project's. Haven't lived on one for many years and that was so bad they flattened it it the end. The security doors never worked as well as the lifts . The stairways and walkways stank . I suppose the whole community lost any pride in where they lived. Just wondered if money spent on tidying up the insides and maybe a concierge . i know it does stop people who shouldn't be there using the block and the issue of sub letting. And as far as brewing, one of my neighbors', nice old girl, used to make a very nice(strong) tea bag wine and a couple of lads used to make 'prison hooch' with cartoons of juice. is that
a WOW?

After reading "Oliver Twist" recently, I get the impression that not much has changed w.r.t. poor people in the UK. Maybe some more veneer, but definitely the same way of patronising them like the Bumbles do.

Over 50 years on and the TWTWTW sketch with John Cleese and the Two Ronnies still sums up Brtitish society ...

Don't be sorry for ur posts mate. Ul be afraid to post otherwise and then we'll have a mass group of boring sods agreeing with each other, copy and pasting every article that comes out rather than leaving an opinion of they're own.
Myn are normally carefully woven into the threads to add comedy, albiet at inappropriate times. Think the part in the 'exorcist' when Ragen ****** on the floor in front of a family and friends gathering.
There's always somebody that will be offended at ur view point, normally after a ****e day at work or maybe they're misses is showing no signs of intamcey at bed time.
For whatever reason, let there be freedom of speech. Even if the is a vile rant of worthlessness.
Let's drink to ourselves and this very informative site regardless. It's helped me no end, even if the snug has left me feeling confused and flabbergasted at times :)

Not selling it for tower blocks but still selling it, unbelievable.

Do we not make cladding in this country.

The US firm that supplied cladding used on London's Grenfell Tower has ended global sales of the product for use in high-rise blocks, it has said.
Arconic said it was "discontinuing" global sales of Reynobond PE for use in tower blocks due to "issues" identified after the fire on 14 June, which is feared to have killed at least 79.

More here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40409981

I went past a block or 3 storey timber framed and boarded flats yesterday in West London, load of **** to be building in this day and age.
If anybody has a fire, I bet it would tear through the building at some rate :-(

We make b####r all in this country:twisted:

We still make nuclear submarines that will never fire a missile!

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament puts the overall cost over the 30 years at £205bn. Reuters, in an analysis last year that was disputed by the MoD, put the cost at £167bn.

Don't forget that we also build aircraft carriers! :thumb:

Want a laugh?

At a cost of £3,500,000,000, HMS Queen Elizabeth has cost the Royal Navy budget so much that they may not be able to afford to buy the planes they need to arm it!

While you digest that tit-bit of information, do you realise that there is another one (HMS Prince of Wales) planned?

Austerity? Poor country? Can't afford to look after our elderly?

Gimme a break!

PS

In the article below the authors point out ...

"The first of the planes is planned to arrive next year and the carrier is
scheduled to be operational in 2020,
bound for anywhere from the Persian Gulf to the South China Sea."

Great news eh?

Obviously the ship isn't designed or intended to defend Britain so we may as well use it to go and poison another far away country's attitude towards us!

Definitely room for improvement but not a disaster either. We make a lot of components and specialist widgets that you don't see in shops, so the impression can easily be skewed.

Reminds me of a Bill Hicks joke about the Iraqi army.

  • People say, "Uh-Uh, Bill, Iraq had the fourth-largest army in the world." Yeah, well, maybe, but, you know what? After the first three largest armies there's a really big ******* drop-off, okay? The Hare Krishnas are the fifth largest army in the world, and they've already got all our airports. So, who is the bigger threat?
