Christmas that is...... been autumn cleaning the house and I have now decided where I'm going to put the tree this year... roll on 1st december (ok maybe the 3rd or 4th!)

I love the idea  , hate the commercialisation :nono:
Had to explain to the wife who black Peter was the other day  (I had a Dutch dad)
Wish we had this character in the U.K, though they'd need stun guns with todays kids

Is he Blue's Brother?

Thanks Vossy, I've learned something new already today.

To save anyone else the search, here's a Wiki link to Zwarte Piet or Black Pete.

I like Christmas but also object to the commercialisation, and it pisses me off no end when stores clear out their garden furniture and barbecues around the beginning of September to bring in the Christmas stock.

At least this year I'll be able to have a drink or several with Christmas dinner, and send our son out driving to fetch and return my mother.

I travel to Amsterdam and The Netherlands pretty regularly and have encountered Zwarte Piet on quite a few occasions. It really is good fun to see.

As I've grown older, I have started to hate the rampant commercialisation too. Maybe this will change over the next few years as we've a 4 month old son now, hopefully we'll come up with a few of our own traditions.

I

HATE

Christmas.

I have two young boys and still hate it. I just can't get into it these days at all.

haha... dont be a scrooge!!

i hate seeing christmas things in shops early.. my local coop were selling mince pies in AUGUST!!!! :nono:

now that IS wrong ....

but i do like putting the tree up in december.. i let the kids put the decs on then when they go to bed i rearrange it as i do like it looking symetrical and balanced

Its not just a case of seeing Christmas things and the commercialization of a religious event I don't believe in. No matter how much good will to all men, wooley jumpers, mistletoe and wine and and only fools and horses christmas specials, I find it depressing which is sad because I feel sorry for my kids. But that is how it goes and I can't get past that.
