Thanks to all who persuaded me to get into extract brewing. Planning a cherry porter next. Thinking about:

Amber LME, probably 3kg
Chocolate malt
Black patent malt
Abbey malt
Fuggles hops

Anyone suggest weights, proportions, timings? Or alternatives?

Cheers,
DDP

It's generally thought of as best to use pale/ultralight type extracts and gain your color/flavor by grain additions so that you can more easily recreate it. You don't know what they used to make it amber, and were you to use a different brand it may not turn out the same or similar.

Do you intend on using cherries or flavoring?

No edit feature???

I meant to add that if using the flavoring extract don't use it all at once. Add half or 2/3, stir well, and taste. Some extracts are potent and can easily be overdone.
