Hello all,

Have just been reading up on the howto stir plate post in the How To section. In that guide the magnets were circular.... I have just taken apart a hard drive to locate some magnets but they appear, although very strong, to have wierd poles.

The ends are one pole and the middle is the other pole. I realise this is maybe a question for a more physics based forum but is there any way I could use these as a stir plate?

Thanks!

EDIT: Just to explain the photo a little, I have stuck the two magnets onto a hard drive platter and then onto an old computer fan. It spins nicely and doesnt vibrate too much either. Now just need to sort out the magnets!

Glue a steel content 2p piece on to the cooling fan, let the hard drive magnet attach it's self to the 2p and then centralise it, job done!
It will easily swing a small to medium size stirbar.
Will post pics if required.
