Hi,
My last 2 brews have followed the same format - heat my beer kettle to the required temperature, add and stir in my grains, wait for an hour, open the tap and wait. At first the wort flows out, but within minutes it's down to a dribble. No amount of stirring or sparging helps.

The beer kettle is fitted with a false bottom, which filters out most of the grains, then there's a mesh filter beneath which clogs up with a fine mulch. At this point the temperature of the mash is too great to try and get your hand in to clear the blockage, so I've resorted to scooping out the wort and filtering through a sieve, but temperatures are affected greatly and the overall outcome is nowhere near planned. My question is this, what can I do to prevent this happening in future? Do I take the mesh filter off completely? Are others available? Are the grains I'm buying milled too fine?
Thanks guys
Mick
