I drank all of #1 hehe

so.....

20L Tesco cheapo apple juice (65ppl)
1L strong tea (5 bag)
5tsp pectolase
topped up to 25L
packet of cider yeast with sweetener (ebay link posted up on here somewhere)
zest of 4 oranges
2tsp allspice
3 cinnamon sticks
2 vanilla pods
5 star anise (wtf are they hehe)

Warmed 2L of apple in a pan with the spices, for 15 mins or so until nearly boiling

Meantime, made my L of strong tea up to stew a bit

Opened the other 18L cartons and chucked in FV with pectolase dissolved in a half cup of warm water

Poured in hot pan of spicy apple goodness

Poured in L of tea (take the bags oot first )

topped up with cold water from the tap

temp was 22-24 deg... perfick

took SG reading... 1.035... spot on for 5%ish including priming sugar to come later

stirred in yeast

screwed top on, some cooled boiled water in airlock

NICE 😃 smells great !

Roddy,
I need to get up to East Lothian to get my homebrew kit (the AG kit etc.) from my m8.
I got him into doing beer a kit, we went to Edinburgh to buy his stuff. I must admit I cant remember the name the shop.

was probably the brew store on South Clerk Street, great place !

update on this brew....

bubbler had been quiet for a few days so took an sg reading.. down to 1.000 so it's done 😃

might bottle up on thurs... tastes magic already... def a medium cider thanks to the lovely chemical sweetener stuff in the yeast 😱

could well be one of the best ciders yet

would love to make this but only have 5 litre demijohns I don't think I would be able to reduce the ingredients to go to 5 litres

I'm sure you could matey

just put one of all of the spices/zest of an orange in, be fine ☺

Yum... not quite clear yet but having a wee sample tonight....

verdict: probably the best tasting cider I've made so far 😃😃😃

getting a hint of orange and vanilla, mixed in with Christmas.. ho ho ho 👍

definitely something to be said for toning the abv down a bit, and the yeast with sweetener seems to have helped too.. pretty darn tasty

I'll try a 5% brew with regular cider yeast next (strawb & lime), so how that turns out, fruity I hope. I've a feeling this batch won't last long 😆

Great news [emoji108]🏼

That's both you and magpie said these yeasts are good I'm hoping to get mine on tonight [emoji106]

Ha ha!!
The cider yeast makes it sweet..and you said the orange zest make it!
I'm upon it, coz I don't drink and it money down the drain if my pals don't drink it!! I think there on a winner! Tbh I'll have to charge them..it's only fare! Lol
Might start to drink! In moderation..:-;
