2 things ' just bought this kit "young's Brew Buddy' 40 pint 1.8kg kit £10.34 from Tesco reading the tin i was curious to see all this info and wondering if i could someone to explain the meaning it?
colour 27 -55 EBC

Bitterness 45 - 55 EBU

OG 1040-1043

extract solids 80-83%

extract value 310L/kg

the EBC is the scale on which beer lightness/darkness is measured, guinness/stout at one end and light pale lagers at the other..

ebu is the bitterness scale, which measures the effect of the bittering hops added.


solids, what it sounds like the treacle like Liquid malt extract has 80-84% malt solids in it, (dry malt extract), so is 17-20% water.

dunno off the top of my head what the extract value is.. wots wrong with google ;)
