To be honest I don't label bottles for personal consumption, I do keep fairly comprehensive notes and also run off a summary sheet with a one-line précis for each which will tell me brew ref., name, date started, OG, date bottled, FG, abv, yield and unit cost. A copy of that is kept down the cellar but my bottles only carry a small sticker with brew ref. and name, for example “Wurzel 63”. My beers just have a reference written on the crown cap in permanent marker, for example “6FG” for AG#6, First Gold.

If I'm giving wines away I will label with name, month started, medium-dry (or whatever) and abv.

Think about it, with commercial wines all you get is the type of grapes and the year they were grown, I'm narrowing it down to a month.

I do month for juice wines - and month and year for country wines that are builiding up in the cellar :? well cupboard but it`s my cellar
