May brew this at the weekend.
Have spare grains/hops from my simco mild.
Would simcoe hops at start of boil and finish with progress work.
As I want to start using spare hops that I have.
Or tettnang/saaz.

Did you brew this Dave?

Bottled tonite.
Finished fermenting almost clear.
Only had 1200gms of maris.
Also added 140gms of crystal and 140gms wheat and 20gms chocolate.
Mashed with 5.5 litres and sparged/rinsed with 5litres.Ended up with 7.5 litres after boil. Also added lots of hops.
15gms simcoe 60mins.
7gms challenger 30mins
10gms progress 10mins
10gms progress 0mins.
Its very bitter and has a nice hoppy flavour.
Added the choc malt as i have plenty spare.

Its got the maris crystal and wheat.
Could not resist chucking in the choc.
And the hops were just hanging around so chucked in a few more that the recipe.
Cant resist a tweak.
Just hope its ok when conditioned. If a tad bitter.

It'll probably turn out fantastic. It's AG. :thumb:

You've got a lot of bittering hops in 7.5 litres, 15g Simcoe for 60, and the 7g Challenger for 30 will a fair bit too.

Tried a bottle last night and its great.
Nice and flavoursome hoppy and bitter my best brew yet.
Its quite dark, probably the chocolate malt.
Will have to make a larger batch as I only have 13 bottles left.
Your right Clibit it did turn out fantastic.

What colour crystal was it, do you know? That could have darkened it quite a bit.

Glad it's worked out well. :thumb:

It'll be medium, so will add quite s lot of colour, plus the chocolate.

How did this turn out? Is it similar to any commercial brews you can think of?

Been brewing a lot of dark beers lately so quite fancy this and have got the ingredients.

I loved this beer, it was excellent. Will make it again. Dunno about commercial beers, Crouch Vale Brewers gold is fairly similar but is all pale malt and lower bitterness.

Just finished up making this today, my second ever ag :)

For some reason I could not get my mash temp up to 67 so mashed at 65 added some boiling water to mash tun but my thermometer wasn't moving. Still when it came to sparge time I hadn't lost any temperature in the tun so a small victory there.

Hit the same SG as the recipe though and had a little taste of the cooled wort and it was very nice indeed. Can't wait to drink some of it!!
