That's the one, i have posted a picture of what it looks like below.
I don't use the drop down on my phone i type the emoticon as in - : lol : (without the gaps)

Trying this in Opera as Lt was Chrome beforehand à¼Ã½ºÃ ½Ã±Âà½Ã¸â¹Ã ½Ã±Å
Again unable to access emoticon on reply section and using phone keyboard.

Now it seems to be when converting in chrome as the emoticons came through on Opera.

If I access the forum on Tapatalk I can see the emoticons on most.Weird.

I have found on opera if you click on the smilie face the drop down is off to the right of the screen so you do not see them where you type.
