Today, the main TV soaps (Emmerdale, Corrie, Eastenders etc) all revolve around a pub ...
... but in reality, pubs went down the tube years ago when they started putting the cost of knocking back two pints a night beyond the reach of the average wage-earner.
Back in 1962 it cost (on average) 11.5p for a pint of beer and the average wage was ã799. If you drank 2 pints a night you spent about 10% of your wages on beer. [2 x 7 x 0.115 x 52] / 799 x 100
I admit that ã6.30 a pint is extreme but so was "A pound a gallon." for petrol so it's probably going to arrive. :lol: :lol:
At ã6.30 a pint, two pints a night would cost just over ã4,800 a year which means that a person nowadays would have to be earning about ã48,000 a year to keep pace with me back in 1962.
Unfortunately, the current pay for a first year Probationary Policeman can be as low as ã19,578 a year ...
... no wonder you never see one in a pub!
Daft as it sounds, even back in the 60's it was still cheaper to brew your own beer! :thumb:

PS
Shock horror!!! "A Pound a gallon?
Never!" they said!
At the moment, ASDA up the road are selling petrol at 115p a litre which equals to
ã5.23p a gallon! :lol::lol::lol:
