I know this question has been asked before but I've not been able to find a clear answer. Can you fit a 1/2" (or other size) ball valve to a 30 litre Burco boiler without having to modify the hole it fits through?

This thread http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=57744 suggests that the hole left by the standard tap is not round and is 26mm high and 21mm wide. @Mike1892 did you have any success?

Has anyone else successfully fitted a ball valve to one of these boilers without messing around with the hole? This is what I would like to add to the boiler http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Tap-Kit-Weldless-Hop-Grain-Filter.html#.VmBDi16T7BY

Thanks!

Yes. I did it. Took the old one off and put thehomebrewshop one in. Yes its not a round hole but that wasn't a problem.

Thank you that's really great news! I was hoping this was the case but couldn't find a definite confirmation.

I know what I'm going to ask for for Christmas.

By the way. It looks like you are using it for mashing?

I'm planning on using it for BIAB. Is this what you are using it for. How does it work for you?

Do you insulate it or just maintain the heat by keeping the power on?

Yes, I do BIAB with it. I use a sleeping bag to keep it warm during the mash. It stays within 0.2 c during an hour mash.

By the way as it is in the shed I've rigged up a pulley above it to haul out the bag, 4kg of grains once mashed weighs quite a bit plus I leave it dangling above the boiler and use both hands to squeeze the wort out. I wear marigolds over woollen gloves so I don't but my hands.

There's a how-to thread with my method, I'll post a link.
