% sugar refractometer - eh?

Hello!

A friend had given men an old (looks 60s) % sugar refactometer. Is it any use? I can't find any how tops or obvious web searches using % sugar.. All are in brix. Am I being daught?

seen this stament online re brix
For example, grape juice which measures 15.5 degrees on the Balling or Brix scale contains about 15.5% sugar

so would assume they are interchangable to a degree
 
Not entirely sure on this one. I guess next time I brew I'll have to compare readings from hydrometer and the refractometer and see if I can gain some in site there.
