Hi All,

It's been a while in the planning but I have made some good progress on my brew shed build. Thanks to the guys from this thread for all the hints and tips. I came up with this design using Google Sketchup:

It took me a while to get used to but it's a great program and free! Note that the doors and windows are still to be designed but everything else is absolutely spot on to the millimetre.

You'll notice 2 sheds in the pic. The one on the left is my general tool/storage shed and the one on the right is my brew shed/man cave.

I have a 10mm electricity cable routed and ready for connection along with mains water supply!

I made a start on these about 2 weeks ago and here is my progress so far:

And that's it for today. I have this Thurs/Fri off work where along with the weekend I hope to complete the brew shed and maybe make a start on the other. It's hard work! And I'm working on my Todd (apart from SWMBO bringing me drinks!)

Thankfully, so far it looks like my design, no hiccups, no (major) problems. So far so good. Enjoying it!

Will update here as progress goes on. Any questions/advice greatly received.

Blimey

If there was a tv show called diy brew SOS they'd be building this for you.

Great looking shed

lol cheers. Got so much left to do it's amazing how time consuming it all is.

Ok, question regarding the internal walls. I'm going to insulate using cavity insulation and was planning on using 18mm plywood to line the walls, turns out this is very expensive so is a no go! At the moment I can't decide between MDF and Chipboard. Any suggestions ?

That`s a great build, almost makes me want to go back to chippying!!

OSB or shuttering ply is a good bet for the inside, easy to fix into and work with, would not use MDF personally its good for furniture making but not lining walls.

Can you not use 12mm ply?

Good tips. I took the plunge and just ordered 16 sheets of 18mm Plywood  the price difference between 12mm and 18mm was marginal so went for the bigger. It's what I originally wanted anyway! I compromised with myself and now I'm only going to insulate and ply the one shed.

I have all day tomorrow and Friday to crack on!

Finished the cladding for shed 1 (almost!) and made a door today! That was a day's job in itself! My roof shingles got delivered today so that's my tomorrow sorted!

Got quite a bit done since the last update! My roof took me a lot longer than expected and the glorious rain does not help matters!

Shed #2 is started! Ok so this is not a brew shed nor is it anything to do with this forum but it's part of my project!

Not doing much tomorrow. Might get the roof finished. On Sunday, I hope to complete the cladding for shed 2. Got the wife on staining duties :D

Here is my homemade ladder all because I was too tight to spend and arm and a leg on a proper ladder. This one very nearly cost me quite literally an arm and a leg as I fell from the top today as it collapsed with a myself and 40kg of roof shingles on my shoulder!! I'm ok, hurt a little at the time but I walked it off! I moved it from this pic and didn't fix it into place. Lesson learnt!

wow. This is absolutely fantastic. I am planning on building something very similar next year. I was thinking about a 5x3m. I would be interested to know where you sourced all the wood from and rough costs. Please PM me if you don't want to post here.

Thanks. I have quite a few more pics to post and will do so soon! Still not finished but getting there! I do plan on sharing the final design together with materials and rough costs when it's done. I sourced the timber from a local independent builders merchants, they came up £1k cheaper than Travis Perkins! The cladding is the expensive part really. If you're anywhere near Peterborough or have a big van, check out www.andrews-bs.co.uk

I'll PM you for now with rough costs and will update here later.

I changed my mind as I'm going to post it later anyway!

Here are some rough costs (from memory so will differ slightly):

Timber: ~£2k
Sheets (Ply and OSB): ~£600
Roof felt and Shingles: ~£500
Insulation: ~£100
Misc Bits (Screws, Nails, Glue, Stain etc): £400

Don't underestimate the cost of screws! I have spent almost £200 on screws alone! (Fair do's they are top of the range screws)

My budget was £3k but it will be closer to £4k by the time I buy my double-glazed windows! (unplanned)

As you can probably tell it was doors closed for the winter. I moved all my **** from the garage into the sheds so I could store the car there for the cold!

I forgot to post my final pic for last year, so here it is:

The observant people will notice that the door has changed. I didn't like my first door, it was sloppy and poorly built so I started again.

I have done a little last weekend. Walls and roof. This is the brew shed and the walls and roof are insulated with 100mm loft insulation.

I have a few days to work on it over the next week so I shall hopefully post a few updates.

I haven't ordered my windows yet, but I will need to do that soon. Over the next few days I plan to build the second door, give it a couple more coats of stain, do the plumbing and if there's time, start on some shelving.
