Im probably way off the mark but I always thought it was combination of Log- as in a record and Bollox as thats what most blogs consist of....

Contraction of the words web log. They range from illiterates with keyboards who think that because they have an internet connection the world cares what they're thinking to some profoundly important semi-professional investigative journalism.
In the brewing community they're used as brewing logs to keep track of what you're brewing, how you're brewing it etc. They can be useful if only from a personal diary type perspective, being a little better than a diary as they can have nice pictures, videos... and aren't ruined by splashing first runnings everywhere.
