Hi all

I've read mixed reports over this. Some say that the basket would suck too much heat out out of the boil but others say that they work well.
Any and all thoughts are welcome

Cheers. Tom

Personally, I use hop bags for the boil ... :thumb:

... but I can't see why the grain basket can't be used as a hop spider.

The only reasons I could see for not using it would be if the holes were so small that the wort couldn't circulate properly through the hops, or, the basket was so big a heat sink that it prevented or severely delayed the wort from boiling.

I would expect it to work okay but at over forty quid it seems horrendously expensive for what is effectively two sieves held together with a clip.

Two of these (or something similar) ...

... linked together with a bit of stainless steel wire would work just as well.
