I am afraid that I can't really answer your question in regard to reusing the pad. However I do some one gallon batches but I wait until they are all ready for filtering and then do them all at the same time. (ideally four, but never less than three)

Now this IS digging up an old one but it did occur to me.....................
yes, danger of contamination etc etc BUT.............. what if the filter pad was soaked well in StarSan prior to reuse?
Thoughts?
