Apparently, the current test of patriotism is that you MUST support everything that the government do with regard to the Brexit negotiations.

If you haven't already seen Andrea Leadsom (Leader of the House of Commons) being interviewed on BBC Newsnight try this link ...

I love the first Comment on the page ...

"In a crowded field, Mrs Leadsom again urges you to consider
her Britain's stupidest politician."

I loved the phrase "In a crowded field ..." It just about sums up my own beliefs about our current batch of Ministers. :thumb: :thumb:

Here is one for Nicola Sturgeon and JC 😂 http://irishpost.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/green-brigade-n.jpg

I suppose you could fill in the same areas with equally true statements about reactionary people, and even reuse parts of it. Yes, my idea is conservative = reactionary. But then what is called liberal in the Commonwealth and USA is currently akin on the continent with socialists and green parties, and the liberals on the continent are more like conservative in CW and USA. And the words left and right for political leanings should really be scrapped.

I've got a Japanese car / motorcycle / audio tackle etc. Does that mean owt?

That obviously means you are a traitor and need to be taken to the Tower to be beheaded forthwith.

Patriotism is one of those silly American idea's. Nationalism by another name, which can often lead to war. They've even got a missile named after the concept ffs

They've changed it to 'Never try to trump a Trump'

Not remotely patriotic. Am humbled by the sacrifice given by so many in the name of freedom, when fighting in 2 world wars. Not so humbled, more a sense of regret or shame, about the imperialistic history of this warmongering, profiteering isle.

And we're **** at footy.

To be honest I am a little

However I keep it to myself as we are growing into a world where I am made to feel ashamed by it.

I guess I am mildly patriotic, probably a patriotism for what we had more than what we have now.
I don't feel even a twinge of empire guilt, white mans guilt is utterly toxic and is ruining the western world with mass immigration from the third world.

I think we just have to get on with things, the best we can..........ideally without killing many people, and ideally while doing some good.

I'd be patriotic about that.

I'm not in the slightest bit patriotic in the queen and country sense. I like the UK, I'm thankful to be here, and I value and would defend things I like about this country, freedom, democracy, secularism, rule of law and so on. I'd even sign up and fight if those were at stake, but I really couldn't care less about the royal bloodline or the battle of Agincourt. George Calin sums it up well:

I could never understand ethnic or national pride. Because to me, pride should be reserved for something you achieve or attain on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being Irish isn't a skill, it’s a ****ing genetic accident. You wouldn't say “I’m proud to be 5’11”. I’m proud to have a predisposition for colon cancer.” So why the **** would you be proud to be Irish, or proud to be Italian, or American or anything?

Doug Stanhope makes the same point even less subtly:

One good thing about monarchy is that we haven't got a president and can get rid of with fair ease prime minsters. Countries are stuck with presidents for at least 4 years.

Nixon didn't and hopefully Trump won't.

Nixon didn't and hopefully Trump won't.

The are exceptions.

Look at Mitterrand 81-95, it don't always work, I was sick of seeing him and I didn't live in france...lol
