Hi there,

This will be my first extract recipe and I need some advice. This is a possible newbie question so apologies in advance:

The first recipe that I plan to do is the Black IPA recipe that is in the Greg Hughes book 'Home Brew Beer'. The only problem is, my boiler is a bit too small for the recipe. I was wondering what the best tactic is to get the largest brew possible with the boiler? Is there a tactic to reduce the ingredients ratio or add water after the boil?

Cheers

Just use the same ingredients but less water. After it's finished, top up the fermenter with cold water.

+1 Yes with an extract brew topping up the FV is a perfect solution,
with a slightly more concentrated boil you may find your hop utilisation isnt quite the same but i doubt it would have a significant flavour impact, and if it does just add an extra couple of grams next time, brewing is a process of continual refinement ;)
