Hi im going to be doing my wherry in the next couple of days and I have a packet of mangroves m79 yeast would it be ok to use this instead of the one that comes in the box. Thanks
 
Its got six months left so well in date will it change the beer at all in taste

The choice of yeast is probably the biggest single contributor to the taste of your beer so yes, it will taste different. I don't know the yeast in question but I'm sure you can find out the kind of flavours it might bring.
 
It's the Burton Union yeast. Each strain of yeast has it's own character, but some are mote different than others. It's a suitable yeast, and you may prefer the outcome, so do it. It won't spoil the beer for you. Trying different yeasts with kits is a great idea. Just like using different hops to dry hop. And steeping some grains. All good ways to vary and improve the beer.
 
i've gone for it. made it up yesterday lunch time with the new yeast I will when its done.
