I told my dad I would brew him a lager, so I got a recipe for the old Colt 45, which ive not seen in years. So this brew is based around Colt 45.
Name: Old Man’s Lager
Grain Bill:
3862g Lager Malt 78%
883g Flaked Maize 18%
165g 60L Crystal Malt 4%

Hops:
60g Hallertau Traditional Pellet 2.0% 60min
Irish Moss 15min
Mash at 65°C for 90 minutes
Boil for 60 min.
Yeast: 2 x Brewferm Lager Yeast
Ferment at 10°C
Brew to 24 litres
IBU: 13
SG: 1054
FG: 1012
Brew Date: 30/07/2014

Looks great, haven't made a lager yet but might try this some time.

Also, how had I never thought of the bottle-on-top-of-the-bucket method to catch overspill...

good stuff.
 
I would love to have a try after seeing your explain.It will be tasty and wonderful.
