I tend to wash out and sterilize my glass demijohns immediately after use and do the same with the stoppers and airlocks.
I then make up a new mix of VWP sterilizer and put about 2 inches in the bottom of each one, put the stoppers back in with airlocks and fill airlocks with sterilizer.
Recently I've noticed an orange growth appearing in the bottom of the demijohns after 3 or 4 months.
What am I doing wrong? Is this gunge terminal?

I don't leave anything in the DJ's when I am going to store them, I wash them then pour a little steriliser in and shake them, I then pour it out and cover the top with a plastic bag and rubber band, I don't see the point in leaving steriliser in them for long periods as it is only effective for a few hours.
I don't know what the orange growth is, why not clean them again using my method and see if it returns.
