If you go for a 15l batch for malt 4kg maris otter (or similar pale base malt) and 300g crystal malt will give you around a 6.5% ABV IPA add hops of your choice. You could add more crystal for a darker bear or add other grains you want to try.

Yeah? I recently did a M.O and Crystal beer, it turned out around 5% (with Goldings hops for bittering/flavouring).Very nice, if a little weaker than I was intending. If I wanted it to be more of an Old Ale in flavour and strength, what might you suggest I add?

try some acid malt (no more than about 10% of the total grain bill) and 2 row.
also 1kg of brew sugar and 500g of spray dry malt will help

From what I can tell replace around 750g of MO with munich malt and a small amount (50g ish) of crystal with a dark malt like patent or chocolate. This still gives you 6.5% I have no idea what you are aiming for though.
