I'm after some advice on home brewing I haven't got any equipment yet, can anyone recommend a start up kit, an idea on costs involved and places to buy from thanks in advance

2 options buy separates from wilko or a full set from coopers.

Not sure if we are allowed to plug sites,if not I apologise. Brewuk imo are the cheapest around.

From personal experience I'd go cheap and go wilko. Kits can be bought cheap and good quality. Fleebay for the glass bottles. Type brown glass bottles. Around £25 for 50 glasses. Capper also from wilko at £10. I'd also start with a two can kit. Muntons premium gold do a Xmas ale that's ment to be a real good drink.

Reason I'd go cheap is because you can upgrade to whatever you want later. Who knows,it might not be something you really want to do or like.

Other alternatives if you want to go straight in for your budget is. Wait until dec when fastferment kit comes out and get that from the mentioned website. Good kit for the price and buy what extras you see fit. Wilko is the cheapest for the extra bits.

I got my starter kit from homebrew online came with barrel bottles hydrometer steriliser beer kit sugar basically everything needed to make a brew was 59.99 plus delivery hope I haven't broken any rules sorry if I have

I got my stuff from the home brew shop online and bought the Brewferm Kit,excellent fermenting vessels, very sturdy with taps included.
Welcome to the home brewing world

I ended up doing both - Wilkos for the basics, Coopers kit on sale at Tesco (£52) and some extras here and there. Nothing seems to go to waste - maybe an extra hydrometer from the kit but that's about it.

Still to get my capper etc. and no way was I paying for empty bottles!

Forced myself to drink some Asda purchased beer for the sake of getting a nice bottle collection <cough>

If you are interested in a pressure barrel kit (rather than bottling) then this is what I started out with - includes a king keg top tap pressure barrel plus a quality 2 can kit, and all the other bits you need like a fermenting vessel, hydrometer, thermometer, syphon tube. steriliser etc:

£79.95 for a great quality kit, I have since added a 2nd king keg, a handy bottler wand and bottle capper so I can bottle as well, plus got more fermentation vessels but the above kit (if you want a good quality pressure barrel) was a great way to get started for me.

If you wanted to add bottling capability to the above barrel kit these items would set you up nicely:
bottle drainer: http://www.home-brew-online.com/equipment-c40/bottle-drainer-tree-50-bottle-p615
quality bottle capper plus 100 caps: http://www.home-brew-online.com/equipment-c40/bottle-crown-capper-metal-with-100-caps-p1737
bottling bucket with bottling 'wand' included: http://www.home-brew-online.com/equ...ncluding-little-bottler-lid-with-grommet-p809

and if budget allows this bottle rinser/sterliser would be a cherry on the top:

If you want to bottle then start saving empty beer bottles or ask your local pub if they can put some empties to one side for you - brown glass 500 ml bottles probably best.

Hope this helps, whatever you buy, good luck with it and welcome to the forums.
