I've always had bubbling every second to start with but this seems like this is going mad, probably because of the yeast nutrient.

If the yeast are going crazy, would it cause any off flavour?

My wine used to empty the airlock as fermentation is so vigorous in the early stages, if you put your syphon tube into the airlock (as below) and put the other end in a bottle/cup with enough water to cover the end of the tube its a lot less noisy and if anything tries to escape the FV its easier to empty than cleaning the airlock and replacing.

That's a great idea! I find these airlocks are much more quieter than bubbler ones, though I've found gasses can pop the top off so it's loosened.

I will give your idea a go though.
