New to brew

Morning all,

Just a quick note to say hi. My friend and I started our first brew (an American IPA) last Saturday and it is now bubbling away under my stairs (picture attached) - I can't take my eyes off it, it's my new obsession.

I'm looking forward to using the Home Brew Forum to pick everyone's brains from time to time.

What did you actually brew? a kit like youngs American IPA? or did you do all grain or extract?

Welcome aboard,
if in the house i would pull the belt off it and wrap it with a sleeping bag to insulate it from daily temperature fluctuations. the yeast will warm up the vessel with activity.. fermenting warm while quick can generate stronger flavours, aim for the lower end of the temperature range indicated suitable for the yeast strain used..

Just don't put a digital thermometer in it, you will end up checking it every 30min, just like I do :)

Yeah,
We used the Young's American IPA. Thought it was safest to start with a kit before we progress.
