I made this to the old spec, 21 litres, and added 25 g of tartaric acid to change the pH to 3.3, plus 2 teaspoons of tannin and a good handful of oak chips. It is now ready and does indeed taste more like a commercial version, but without the floral bouquet. Next time I will add elderflowers.
I calculate the yield is 23 full screw top wine bottles (actual capacity 800 ml) at about £1.20 each. Out of interest, I poured all of the sediment (1 litre) into a jug and left it to settle, to see how much wine is wasted after racking. The answer is less than 1%!

After 24 hours, I salvaged half a litre of clear wine from the litre of sediment, so that's 2.5%. While this is not a lot, the salvaged wine is useful for topping the contents of a barrel. It also means that it is possible to get 24 full bottles from a 21 litre batch.
