Hi All

I have just started home brewing this week.

For my first brew i am making (or trying to make) gingerbeer. I intent to hand a few bottles out as presents at Christmas.

I am brewing in a 10L tub( http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=171986662958&alt=web ) however it does not have an airtight seal i have even used vasiline and ducktape but it is still not sealing.

I am also brewing in a 5L water bottle from the supermarket with a hole in the top and a airlock and that is working fine.

My question is should i transfer my beer into another air tight brew bin or not.

I have tried using the search on this forum and others but can only find bits about secondary fermintation.

Thanks

Welcome aboard! I wouldn't be overly worried about it not being airtight - the co2 produced by the fermentation process will keep air at bay.

Welcome to the forum ;-)

As manse already said don't worry to much about air tight at this stage.

I'd go out get a couple of demijohns on standby for racking. These have better air tightness <----not a word ;-)

If anything you can use them to make a wow or spilt some from the main batch to try flavouring it.

Which brand of ginger beer did you buy? Or make?

Wow great welcome from everyone thank you all

The ginger beer was the simplest one i could find on you tube ginger honey and a bit of sugar.

For bottling i plan on siphoning into one of these http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=351158096858&alt=web with some boiled water and corn starch then into bottles

Then i can use the containers for an extact kit.

Is it bad to be planning out my next drink already lol
